As Above, so Below: Catacombs of Paris

As Above, So Below

Coming soon to theaters, August 15th 2014, “As Above, So Below” will bring claustrophobia to a whole new level. Set in the streets of Paris, revolving around a real situation that happened hundreds of years ago, The Catacombs of Paris.

So a little about the movie, it’s about a treasure hunt that two archaeologists insist on going on deep within these catacombs where over 6 million dead bodies lay. So what’s so interesting about this movie? It appears from the trailer…

..that our tomb raiders are haunted by their pasts while in the confines of the under ground maze.

Let’s go a little deeper though, what does “As Above, So Below” mean exactly?

The words come from Hermetism(a religious and philosophical tradition based primarily upon pseudepigraphical writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus - Source)

Now, I’m not going to claim to know anything about Hermetism or what these words mean exactly. I’ll just be quoting from sources. Doing some research, it seems that “As Above, So Below” means that if you understand oneself then you may understand the universe.

With that being said, it looks like the film hits this accurately. Understanding yourself, within these tombs close to the “gates of hell”, you may understand the universe. So does this mean that they’re destined to die in order to understand?

The film looks really good, the trailer seems suspenseful and creepy. If you’re anything like myself and hate tight spaces, this movie may give some problems.

I’ll be seeing this one for sure though, let me know what you think of the trailer in the comments below!
