The new Ninja Turtle designs from producer Michael Bay has already deemed the term “Bay-turtles”, and today we go to see our first glimpse of Master Splinter.  Splinter is the lovable mutated rat sensei that, in the traditional story, raised and trained the Ninja Turtles.

Although the clip is very quick and shows merely Splinter’s hand, clutching a katana, and his back there are a few things we can learn from the scene.  First of all it’s easy to notice Splinter’s Fu Manchu style mustache.  Of course this is to give him more of an “Asian” look, although this type of facial hair has never been popular in Japan it’s not uncommon to see Hollywood casting stereotypes and summing up “Asia” as one country.  The hair may be hard to see at the moment, but it does coincide with earlier reports from people who go a first glimpse of the new action figures.

Along with the shot of Splinter we can see that he is getting into the action.  As I mentioned before he is twirling a katana in his hand, and about to face down with a tall figure in what appears to be samurai style garb.  The character could be shredder, or another character that we haven’t heard about yet.

Along with Splinter we get another glimpse at some of the other turtles.  We get to see a better shot of Raphael as he fights, along with a from the back shot of Donatello and all the tech gear attached to him.  Perhaps they marketing department is shying away from showing the turtle’s faces too much due to the backlash from the internet on the new designs.  Some redditors have even took it upon themselves to fix the Shrek-ified Ninja Turtles.
