“The average person uses 10% of their brain..”

Scarlett Johansson is no stranger to being a bad ass, and after watching the trailer to “Lucy” she fits perfectly in a role like this. However, I am not convinced that this will be worth spending the $9.50 to see in the theater.

Rich party(assuming) girl Lucy, is kidnapped and cut open by some really bad guys who place some crazy blue bag of drugs in her abdomen for delivery. Whether it’s planned or not, she is beaten and the drugs are broken open and absorbed into her body giving her super powers. Her “powers” come out as her brain power increases, Morgran Freeman informs us that the average person uses only 10% of their brain and Lucy is going above and way beyond that.

I like the idea of the drugs being implanted in a kidnapped girl who is then forced to deliver them, however once the bag in her belly has been broken and she starts to change, I quickly lose interest. The trailer has a strange “Matrix” feel to it, becoming one with the world and your surroundings as brain power increases(which could be similar to being “woken up”). Stopping and resuming time and dropping guys to the ground with only a wave of the hand, I’m surprised we didn’t get to see any bullets being stopped but I wouldn’t count that out from the full film.

The error in facts surrounding the premise of this movie makes it hard to want to spend the time and money to watch it. In fact, the error has been pointed out on the IMDB page here stating that:

“The major premise of this movie - that humans only use a small percentage of our brains - is a fallacy. While it is true that not all parts of the brain are active at all times, it all gets used. It would be just as true to say that we don’t ‘use’ our legs when we sit down.”

I’m not impressed with the trailer, it’s hard to judge a movie based only on a trailer though. I don’t think I’ll be seeing this in the theater but will most likely be renting it once it hits a RedBox.
